What Could Be Done to Further Improve Destiny

I first have to say I love Destiny. I have put a lot of into Destiny in both time and money and I truly want Destiny as a franchise to succeed and I believe I should voice my opinions now in what many are calling Destiny’s darkest hour.

  1. Raids: Firstly I have to give Bungie credit on their ability to create raids that are fun to do over and over again, but the loot tables have consistently been unbalanced. What do I mean by that? I mean that there are some people who get all the raid gear in the span of month or so and that is fine because going through the raid about with all three characters for about five weeks should get you most of gear you need, but by about now 11/18/15 week nine there are still some players who just can’t get that last couple pieces of armor and while I cannot apply my own raid drops from Kings Fall as I have not been able to play Destiny for the past 2 months, but these reports do match up with mine and many others experiences with both the Vault of Glass and Crota’s End. This is not the biggest issue in the world, but it definitely big enough to be mentioned. I suggest that similar to the House of Wolves we have multiple chances to get that gear we need. The three of coins was definitely a step in the right direction, but it is not enough to fix the issue.
  2. Story: Bungie, you have taken great strides in the right direction with the story, but in my opinion the story is still not as in depth as the stories told in Halos 1-3, ODST, and Reach. The Taken King did a great job of improving the existing story and integrating those original missions into the Taken King storyline, and while I must give credit where credit is due, I must also ask what could have been done to improve the story when it originally launched. I have read the articles about what happened to Destiny’s original story, and I have to say I am disappointed because that was the story I thought I was buying when I bought vanilla Destiny and I, like many millions of people were extremely angry for that and we had every right to be. My opinion was that Destiny should have been delayed so that the writing team at Bungie could have had more time to complete the story. I understand that there are things I do not know and variables that had to be taken into consideration other than the story.

At E3 you showed us something and the day you let vanilla Destiny you started walking down a very dark path. I felt betrayed that day when I finished the campaign and thought “Where’s the rest of the story?” only to find nothing. I quickly got over that feeling because deduced that something had happened somewhere to mess this up and that there was a lot more to this than “Bungie betrayed us” or “Bungie is lazy” because you are not. You showed us that with the Halo franchise and with the E3 demo and the Taken King that there was something magnificent out there that you wanted to share with us. Hopefully with future expansions and Destiny 2 there will be more story of the quality you earned your reputation for and I can’t wait to play it. Before I move on I have just a quick note on grimoire cards. I am not going to bash how no one ever checks them because look at the Book of Sorrow, but instead may I encourage you to incorporate stuff from the grimoire into the game examples being praedyths ghost.

  1. Multiplayer: Destiny has had several problems with PvP such as lag, especially during Iron Banner, no custom matches, and weapon balancing. To start off I believe that weapons will never be completely balanced with a game like Destiny, but I do think that there need to be much swifter action on balancing for a while so that you can get a feel for what works and what doesn’t because changes every few months do not fix this issue it simply brings another weapon type into the limelight the only current exceptions being scout rifles. In this case it would make it easier to find out what works and what doesn’t by letting the community help by making changes and seeing what happens for three maybe four weeks then making a change based on that data. Will it ever be perfect for everyone? No because of the diversity of weapons archetypes for each weapon each one will have its rise and fall depending on the current build and that’s fine. I don’t believe many can complain about having to switch there loadouts once a month because of a patch, in fact I think many would embrace this idea.

Custom matches are something we expected to have when Destiny launched and we did not get them boo hoo. I honestly think that we really want them for playing with our friends and for esports, both of which could only help Destiny grow. I have a friend who did not purchase Destiny because of no custom matches along with other reservations, but that was a big one. All I have to say please let us have it.

In Multiplayer, and especially Iron Banner, one of the biggest fan wanted things is not a scrapped exotic, but dedicated servers instead of p2p (peer to peer) connections. This a problem because p2p connection can and usually do have a lot of lag. It is a problem it needs to be fixed because shooting someone to death only to have them disappear, and then see that person was actually behind you and that you are dead is not a happy moment in the life of a Destiny player. Prioritize this as you see fit.

  1. News

Cozmo, Deej, Luke Smith, you are the voice of Bungie and you do a great job. Unfortunately the news that has come out has been practically nonexistent in that we do not know what the next big thing in Destiny is or particularly what is going on with Destiny. I say this as Bungie has mentioned a December update, but not specifically what it entails. Some believe that this is a DLC like an update with more story, another pvp rebalance, and maybe another raid. Personally I don’t know what to think because of confusing press releases from both you and Activision. When the Eververse trading company launched a statement was made that said that the sale would fund future DLC. What the crowd wants to know is if the sales are funding the production of creating future DLC or are they being used to supplement the cost of DLC so that may cost less or possibly be free for everyone. There is also the talk about what happened to challenge modes that were spoken of so long ago: what are/were they and what happened? We, the player/watcher base, want to know what is next. There needs to be a little more information on that.
